'Three of the eight major laser systems have already arrived at ELI-ALPS in Szeged, and for one of them the on-site testing has already been successfully completed', said Károly Osvay, Directory of Research and Technology. 'These laser systems are unique, such devices cannot be found anywhere else in the world', he continued at a press conference held at the institution’s scientific opening.

In the spring of 2016, under a procurement procedure for the ELI-ALPS Laser Research Institute in Szeged, evopro Systems Engineering Ltd. delivered White Rabbit networking equipment to the institute and evopro Innovation Ltd. provided training and technical support for it.

The “White Rabbit” technology was originally developed for the CERN research institute where they required fast transmission of large amounts of data and delivery of accurate, reliable timing information even over longer distances (up to 10 km). “White Rabbit” is an extension of Ethernet which allows for sub-nanosecond, accurate timing on an optical network.

Optical experiments conducted at ELI-ALPS are at the forefront of science. In addition to basic research, another goal of the institution is to serve industrial partners with their optical infrastructure.

It’s interesting to note that the laser pulses produced at the institute can be so short that their time periods are comparable with the time period of light as it passes through a single water molecule. Such short pulses allow researchers to observe previously unknown properties of various materials.
